Google has finally revealed its VR headset, DAYDREAM VIEW, its pebble-sized controller, and also a many apps and games which can be used on your Daydream-ready phone. Google also unveiled its new Pixel and PixelXL smartphone, which are going to be the first handsets to be Daydream ready.
With the motive to make the VR technology accessible to the masses, Google became the harbinger of VR revolution with its low cost and low smartphone capability requirements headset, Google Cardboard. Now Daydream View is promising a higher quality experience to its users.
ABOUT DAYDREAM VIEW
To say the least, Daydream View is sleek and super comfortable. It’s not plastic but as Google’s VR chief, Clay Bavor says, ‘The material is a combination of microfiber cloth and the kind of material you find in workout clothes. The overall goal is to encourage airflow and decrease that gross, sweaty feeling when you’re in some VR headsets for a while.’ The headset comes in three colors: Slate, Snow and Crimson.
The controller works along all the axis and features a trackpad and two buttons.
Explaining the functioning of the headset, Clay Bavor said that when a ‘Daydream Ready’ phone is placed into the headset’s cradle, the two devices recognize each other through NFC and automatically pair. They also automatically orient to one another, so it won’t matter if you slide the phone in a quarter-inch off to the left. The idea is to “make the process completely painless. You have a phone and a headset, and they should understand each other.”
Right now, only Google’s new Pixel phones run on the platform, but many more Daydream-ready devices are coming soon.
It’s too early to make any judgments on the Daydream View and Pixel and Pixel XL. Keep yourself braced up for the updates on it here on GetVR.
